Midsummer Scene Warmly Welcomes You
to Season 9: Face the Music!
22 June – 6 July 2023 / Dubrovnik, Croatia
We invite you to take a seat in our main venue, the wonderful Fort Lovrjenac, and enjoy the musical Around the World in Eighty Days specially commissioned for our festival. It is inspired by the father of science fiction Jules Verne. Mr Verne was well-acquainted with the beauty of Dubrovnik, describing it as Slavic Athens in his 1885 novel Mathias Sandorf.
This season we embark on a new adventure!
We have already travelled around the world: Austria, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Bermuda, to start. We mostly staged Shakespeare, including A Midsummer Night’s Dream, the play that gave our festival its name. Together with the House of Marin Držić, and Marin Držić Theatre (yes, he is very popular here!), we co-produced Uncle Maroye in 2019. This piece was inspired by Držić’s most famous comedy. This season we will launch the first English translation of another Držić’s comedy: Old Stan or A Fool Fooled – after 471 years!
We will see you at the Piano Maniacs Triathlon (do not fear, you will not be required to run!), and a solo-musical Ljubav je fer (or, Love is Fair – yes, this one is performed in Croatian, but do not let that stop you from seeing it!).
